Ashar Qureshi is a leading capital markets and business lawyer who has been described as a “star”. Since 2014 he has been a partner in the corporate team of Magic Circle law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, covering the UK, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Ashar’s specialism is broad corporate finance practices and he has been involved in a full spectrum of capital markets and Mergers and Acquisitions transactions, encompassing a wide variety of industries, products and jurisdictions. His work ranges from equity to debt securities, including high yield, complex hedge fund and private equity instruments and structures. He has regularly advised governments, corporations and major international financial institutions and has built up an impressive reputation for emerging markets and sovereign-related transactions.

Previously, Ashar was the Vice-Chairman of the Russian investment bank Renaissance Group and CEO of Renaissance Asset Managers, a Russian investment management business. Prior to joining Renaissance, he was a partner at international law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton for more than 10 years, where he was based in the New York office before taking up a role within Cleary’s London capital markets team. He described the move as a “pit stop on the way back home” to Pakistan, but as Ashar acted on a host of major public floats in the Middle East and Asia, he fell in love with London.

Ashar, who is a member of the New York Bar, is a Harvard graduate and also attended the Harvard Law School in 1990.
