Dijendra (known as Dijen) Bhushan Basu QC is a barrister at 5 Essex Court Chambers. He has been a Recorder since 2009 and took silk in 2015. Dijen’s particular specialism is police and public law. Chambers & Partners 2015 rate him in Band 2 on all circuits for police law, saying he is strong on human rights and protest law cases. On public law he challenges and advises on the impact of equality legislation on police practices. He was recently instructed in a case involving the West Midlands Constabulary regarding the collection of DNA of offenders not on the current database. Dijen was appointed to the Attorney General’s Panel of Special Advocates in 2010. Dijen who was called to the Bar in 1994 has a medical background – he attended Guy’s Hospital Medical School from 1986 graduating (with distinction) with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree in 1991.
