Hamish Lal is a partner at international law firm Jones Day and is the head of its contentious and non-contentious construction law practice. Hamish’s practice encompasses real estate, renewables, nuclear, oil, gas, project finance and major projects sectors. He has handled adjudications, arbitrations, expert determinations, mediations, and High Court/DIFC disputes relating to a variety of contractual, technical and financial matters.

Chambers and Partners 2015 ranks Hamish in Band 1 for Construction: Purchaser, saying he is well regarded by peers and leads the practice specialising in high-value international disputes and project work.

Hamish is author of Quantifying and Managing Disruption Claims, a member of the Council of the Society of Construction Law and Editor of the ICE Construction Law Quarterly. He also sits on the Committee of the Adjudication Society.

He graduated in Jurisprudence from the University of Oxford in 1998, obtained his doctorate from the University of Dundee in 1999 and completed his Legal Practice Course at the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice the same year. Hamish is a solicitor with higher rights of audience in all proceedings and is also a barrister (Gray’s Inn).
