Shailesh Vara is the Justice Minister responsible for the Courts and Legal Aid. He is a member of the Conservative Party and was first elected as a Member of Parliament for North West Cambridgeshire in May 2005, and re-elected in 2010 and 2015. He has held various local, regional and national posts within the Conservative Party, including Vice Chairman between 2001-2005. He was shadow Deputy Leader of the House of Commons between 2006-2010, and a Government Whip between 2010-2012. Before entering politics, Shailesh qualified as a solicitor and worked in the City and West End of London, as well as a stint in Hong Kong. His ministerial portfolio includes Legal Aid, courts, tribunals, administrative justice, judicial policy and judicial diversity.
